Cardiff University
Cardiff University is a Russell Group Institution located in Cardiff, the Capital City of Wales in the United Kingdom. The University was founded by Royal Charter in 1883 and has a mission to reach the highest international standards in research, learning, teaching and community engagement. The School of Physics and Astronomy is home to 38 academic staff, 23 postdoctoral research assistants and 60 PhD students, with a cohort of approximately 300 undergraduate students in a given year. It's well renowned for its strong astronomy group, which includes Royal Astronomical Society prize winners and leaders in gravitational-wave astronomy and infrared astronomical instrumentation.
It works closely with LEARN, the community arm of Cardiff University which provides lifelong learning opportunities. Cardiff University and the School of Physics and Astronomy has a lot of experience with European funding streams (including Marie-Curie), Cardiff also hosts an award-winning spin-out company (Science Made Simple) which produces physics and astronomy shows for schools at different levels.
