ISE tool implementation for high school students in Avlonari, Greece

Twenty five students from the Avlonari Junior High School took part to a hands-on activity related to the research done at CERN. The computer lab of the school had 20 PC's available where most students worked individually and a few in groups of two. For the high school students aged 13-15, the principle of the CERN accelerators was presented to them by Dr.S.Chouridou and they tried to 'Accelerate particles' using the new corresponding demonstrator and answering both knowledge and assessment questions. The results can be found here.

As a second activity older students from three different schools in the South Evia regin (Kymi, Aliveri, Konistra) joined the Avlonari fellows for a more advanced lab. In total there were 35 students aged 16-17 and 5 teachers. The hands-on implementation description was given by C.Kourkoumelis and S.Vourakis. The students followed all steps of the demonstrator and answered the PISA questions on each step. The majorty of time was spent in the third phase where they used the embedded HYPATIA tool to search for Z and Higgs boons. The results of the PISA assessment can be found here. The HYPATIA tool was presented for a second consecutive year to the same school but different students
