International IPPOG Physics Masterclass at CERN for French high school students
Thirty high school students from the neighboring French city of Annecy came to CERN in Geneva, Switzerland for one day in order to learn about particle physics, CERN and become researchers for a day. In the morning, lectures were given by Andorachi Tsirou, CERN senior engineer and C.Kourkoumelis from the University of Athens. Before lunch they visited the CERN computer center. In the afternoon, the students used the HYPATIA event display with the help of Nikos Tsirintanis to look for Z and Higgs bosons. Furthermore, at the end of the day the students compared their results with those of other institutes. While the students were busy with their hands-on activities, the teachers followed an introduction to ISE by C.Kourkoumelis and were encouraged to subscrwibe to the project's data base. Different possibilities about their action plan were discussed.
