Implementation of the ISE tools for Senior High School students in Zante (Greece)
On 20 April, Thirty six students aged 16-17, from all three different schools in the Zante island (two from the capital and one from the town of Katastari) accompanied by seven teachers joined the 2nd Senior High School of the city of Zante to follow a hands-on ICERN experience. The description and working knowledge of the ISE demonstrator was given by C. Kourkoumelis and S. Vourakis. The students followed all steps of the demonstrator and answered the PISA questions on each step. Most of the time of this half-day experience was spent in the third phase where they used the embedded HYPATIA tool to search for Z and Higgs bosons. The results of the PISA accessment can be found at http://tools.inspiringscience.eu/delivery/view/index.html?delivery=f8dcb79d&id=40ec3ada&t=t&uname=gvasil
The next day the students joined the school again to participate to a virtual visit to the CMS experiment and asked many questions to the CERN scientists.
Learning outcomes
- Acquaintance with the High-Energy Physics research and CERN
- Familiarisation with the ISE project
- Familiarisation with the structure of atoms and protons
- Familiarisation with the HYPATIA demonstrator and event analysis techniques
