Eratosthenes Experiment, 19-20 March 2015

A new, enriched edition of theEratosthenes Experimentis coming very soon! This year the experience will be double: it will last two days and will take place on19-20 March 2015.

The experiment will take place on the19thof March in Europe and North Africa (due to the fact that on the20thof March we will have in that area a solar eclipse) and on the20thof March for the rest of the world, on the equinox day. Thus, for your matchup ' if no other schools can be found on the same longitude - you can consider the existence of a virtual school on the equator with experimental data 0 (shade of a one-meter stick measured at a certain time). This way you can also have an accurate outcome by conducting the experiment by yourself.

In 2014 a total of 350 schools in 37 countries participated in the Eratosthenes Experiment to measure the Earth's circumference. The Greek mathematician, Eratosthenes (276 BC-194 BC) used this same experiment to enable him to prove the sphericity of the Earth and to measure its circumference.
