Discover the COSMOS and Go-Lab demonstrated at ICT2013
The ICT2013 event was organised by the European Commission in partnership with the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU, and the official sponsors of the Presidency. Heldin Vilnius, it was a unique opportunity for projects and companies to showcase their research, ICT products and innovative creations.
The Institute of Accelerating Systems and Applications (I.A.S.A) and Ellinogermaniki Agogi held a stand in the exhibition where they demonstrated innovative ways to involve teachers and students in e-Science through the use of existing e-infrastructures via the projects Discover the COSMOS and Go-Lab.
The main outcomes of Discover the COSMOS are its educational portal (http://portal.discoverthecosmos.eu) which brings together resources, virtual experiments and online labs from the field of astronomy and HEP and a roadmap (in six languages) giving guidelines for developing technology enhanced Science Education in schools.
At the stand a number of indicative 'hands-on' online interactive experimentations were demonstrated. These and many others will be developed in a wide federation of labs which will be made available and easily accessible for teachers and students throughout Europe by theGo-Lab project. A live connection to the ATLAS experiment at CERN was also included.
The Discover the COSMOS and Go-Lab projects will help bridge the gap between existing projects and the large projects of the Inspiring Science Education portal.
