Tiedekeskussäätiö Heureka

HEUREKA, the Finnish Science Centre, opened to the public in April, 1989. It immediately became one of the major attractions in Finland. Since its opening, Heureka has been seen by 6,2 million visitors (annual average 270 000), 25% of these being school children arriving in groups. Abroad, Heureka’s exhibitions have been seen by 16 million visitors. The population of Finland is 5 million. Heureka is known for its highly interactive and popular science exhibitions. The contents development of these exhibitions is always done in close co-operation with the best available scientific expertise. In this way, the scientific content of the exhibitions is reliable and based on the newest knowledge in the area. Educational functions are very important. In the exhibition planning, the usability and the design of the exhibition for the visitors are in focus. Developing informal science education in open learning environments has been a key topic of Heureka. The result is an attractive and intriguing set of exhibits that involves the teachers and school visitors in active experimentation. Heureka has been implementing successful EU-funded
science learning projects annually since 1993 like CONNECT, EXPLOAR, Discovery Days, PENCIL, HANDSON & BRAINS-ON, OPEN SCIENCE RESOURCES, and Science Center to go.
