Virtual Visit to the Ice Cube South Pole Research Facility
In the framework of the Inspiring Science Education project in Greece, a series of Virtual Visits to the world’s biggest research facilities, such as CERN and the IceCube Neutrino Observatory in the South Pole, has taken place. On 22/01/2016, 6 schools, 80 students and 20 teachers from Crete, conducted a Virtual Visit to IceCube, with contributions from Sofoklis Sotiriou (Ellinogermaniki Agogi, Greece), Sotirios Loukatos (University Paris 7 Denis Diderot,) and Vasilis Garganourakis (MinEdu, Greece). Participants were given the opportunity to discuss about Neutrino particle research, what the experiment is discovering about the universe from the so-called invisible particles and what it is like to live and work in one of the most extreme environments on earth.
